Whitehouse Kennedy Viktor Mitic
- Acrylic Paint, Gold Leaf, and Bullet Holes on Canvas
- 28 × 36 inches
71.12 × 91.44 cm
Whitehouse Kennedy inserts itself into dialogue with the pop celebrity style of Andy Warhol and the provocative juxtapositions of portrait and text by Barbara Kruger. Only this time bullet holes instead of text create the jarring juxtapositions that implore the viewer to take a second look from another perspective. Clad in a gilded tunic, Kennedy is silhouetted by cavities left behind by bullet holes. Strategically performed bullet holes pierce the canvas creating a friction between creation and destruction and ask the viewer to confront ideas surrounding the normalization and glorification of violence in contemporary culture.
