Dense black painterly shapes balance a narrative of agitated, scratched black lines, paired with passages of white, taupe and grey in this powerful ink and tea painting. These curated lines and shapes are created in traditional brush methods on white rice paper then mounted on wood panel. This work is unframed. Lan holds an MFA from the City University of Art in Kyoto, Japan and studied at the China People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art in Beijing, China. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia including Beijing Fine Arts Museum, the Mingyuan Museum (Shanghai), Art Basel (Miami), the Contemporary Art Museum of Valencia, the Times Art Museum (Beinjing), the Maison de la Culture (Montreal), Galerie Shim no Uchi (Osaka), Madach Galeria (Budapest), Anderson Fine Art (Zurich), and Oeno Gallery (Bloomfield). Zhu Lan's work is included in numerous private and corporate collections including the Four Seasons Hotel, General Electric and the Banque de France. Her work is also in many public collections including the Beijing Fine Arts Museum, The China National Museum, (Beijing), the Mingyuan Museum (Shanghai) Musée Baie Saint-Paul, Quebec, Washington University, Confederation Arts Centre, Charlottetown, Simon Fraser University, and the National Art Museum of China in Beijing.
