In this month's Focal Point, SOFT LINES, we invite you to explore artwork with soft lines and graceful curves that bring a gentle presence to interior spaces. These artists use flowing lines and muted palettes to create a unique focal point that evokes feelings of comfort and ease. We feature works by Fiona Ackerman, Stefan Duerst, John Paul Robinson, Steven Heinemann, Chung-Im Kim, Milly Ristvedt, Paula Murray, Rod Mireau and Jeremy Guy.

Soprano

Fiona Ackerman, Acrylic on Canvas, 47 x 36 in

Soul Gate Eldorado

Stefan Duerst, Stainless Steel with 24k Gold Leaf, 36 x 6 x 9 in

This elegant and ethereal contemporary, hand-forged wall sculpture is hot-formed steel, powder-coated yellow, and finished with a double layer of German 24-karat leaf gold. The Canadian artist hand-forges these lyrical abstract forms from one continuous wide ribbon of steel to create fluid ‘curls’ that appear to express energy in motion.

Duality B2

John Paul Robinson, Glass and Steel, 62 × 48 × 4 in

Hive

Steven Heinemann, Ceramic, 27.5 × 9 × 8 in

Moolbora

Chung-Im Kim, Industrial Felt, 48 × 48 × 4 in

This white and blue-gray tapestry was hand-sewn by Canadian textile artist Chung-Im Kim. Kim uses industrial felt to create her wall hangings. Coloured ink adds dramatic contrast, visible texture and expressive detail to the white fabric. In Korean, Moolbora means water splash.

Pearl

Milly Ristvedt, Acrylic on Canvas, 1988, 54 × 48 in

A ballet of intersecting brushed swipes in indigo, verdant green, mauve and cerise emerges from a soaked peach ground in this classic 1988 painting by Milly Ristvedt, RCA. Colour and the grid are the focus of Ristvedt's paintings that through one's lens of experience reveal a narrative.

Wave

Paula Murray, Porcelain, 11 × 18 × 7 in

Roots and Ashes

Rod Mireau, Stained Ash and Walnut, 48 × 48 × 3 in

Curved Space 48

Jeremy Guy, Engineered Marble, 60 x 12 x 12 in

Smooth-surfaced, engineered white marble flecked almost imperceptibly with grey and black, sparkles gently in the light. The ovular form balances presence and absence of space in an organic and anthropomorphic manner. This piece is available on commission basis, please allow 8-12 weeks before shipping.
