About Changing Seasons

This large contemporary abstract acrylic painting is rendered in spring colours.

Acclaimed artist Adam Cohen’s sensual abstract paintings explore the power of colour to evoke emotion.

Known for his bold modern palettes often inspired by nature and his grand gestural brushstrokes, Cohen has created his own version of Action Painting—spontaneous applications of paint achieved through dripping, smearing and splashing paint on the canvas. With Changing Seasons, he celebrates the fresh, bright colours of spring—pastel orange, pink, periwinkle and green incised with a scaffold of sharp lines that unfold from left to right. The result is a visually stunning, lush and dynamic composition.

“… I like abstract painting. I can create accidents. And then I can edit in or out what I like. Use them as a springboard. A place to build the rest of the painting around. I create paintings that feel deeply personal to me. Somehow I always know when they are done.” Adam Cohen

“A painting by Adam Cohen is like a sudden burst of light. Vision is dazzled by a surface alive with color, swarming with incident. As you approach the canvas, it feels as if it were coming forward to meet you, to immerse you in a field of visual energy.” Carter Ratcliff, Art Critic

Adam Cohen studied at Philadelphia’s Tyler School of Art and lived and painted in Rome for years. After many years as an illustrator in NYC, he returned to his first love--painting. Adam Cohen lives and paints in the Catskills, NY. Cohen has exhibited extensively in the US, Europe, Asia and most recently in Amsterdam, Venice and Long Island, New York.
