About Blue and Green
This playful pop art-inspired indoor sculpture is by Alexander Caldwell. The Calgary-based artist uses a bold colour palette—this piece in lime green and deep blue to accentuate the clean, minimal lines of three circular pieces that sit inside one another. Caldwell uses industrial paints to ensure the finish of his work is flawless; the sheen of this piece reflects light; it is so highly polished.“… The colour that transforms the industrial origins of my materials has become so important to the simpler shapes of my new work that it’s as if the metal has become an armature for the paint. “ Alexander Caldwell
Alexander Caldwell was born in Whitehorse, Yukon. He studied with Artist Katie Ohe at Alberta College of Art (now called The Alberta University of the Arts) graduating in 1985. He established Alexander Caldwell Design Ltd, in a warehouse that he converted into a studio and foundry. His work has been exhibited in Calgary, Miami, Chicago, Scotland, and Switzerland. It is widely collected in both private and private collections throughout Canada and internationally including the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Disney Tokyo, the W Hotel Korea, and Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts. Caldwell lives and works in Calgary.
