About Flight Unfolding

This mixed media contemporary assemblage resembles a vessel and is designed to be hung on a wall.

When Alice Vander Vennen sits down to create a sculptural composition, she thinks of it as a visual poem—a story rich in history, both personal and collective.
The Canadian artist’s beautiful, intricately detailed work is created using ‘found’ objects—stones from the shores of Lake Ontario, shells, pieces of textiles, and burnished copper assembled to form and adorn a canoe-like shape. Two sets of ‘paddles’ are attached to both sides, the bow and stern of the vessel.
These framed pieces can be hung horizontally or vertically.

“The form of the vessel symbolizes the gathering of this work, embodying the mysteries of these narratives. It is the same with stones, for they too show the work of the evolving earth formations. Beautiful, visible yet mysterious. Powerful in its simplicity, "Vessel" serves as the holder of these mysterious yet powerful stories.” Alice Vander Vennen

Alice Vander Vennen trained as a sculptor at Calvin College, USA and at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Her work is held in public, private and corporate collections both here and abroad.
