About the Work
Flat areas of pure acrylic ink wash -- red, pale orange, green, brilliant yellow, pale green, and grey -- on clear primed canvas are superimposed with two ribbons of white, and a black angular arch. Hill's work recalls aspects of modern minimalism and color field paintings though with references to the figure throughout. The choice of solid colors, restricted medium and flattened space, is informed by Hill’s artistic influences such as Jack Bush and William Perehudoff. The work's graphic nature relies on the sheer flatness this medium produces. Aron Hill currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2000 with a BFA in Interdisciplinary studies. He then completed his MFA at Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006. Hill has exhibited across Canada and in Dubai.
