About Archway to an afterlife

In this striking piece, Calgary artist Aron Hill explores the bold architectural form of the arch. Rendered in a subdued palette of slate gray, teal, white and soft black, an archway sits in the center frame, outlined in stitches, a circular ‘heavenly’ shape glows inside it. The landscape flows in an undulating line across the base of the work.
Hill has assembled this piece using a collage method that includes acrylic ink, gluing and threading on the canvas.

“The arch as a form historically can symbolically represent a passageway between times and psychological spaces. In this particular work of art, I saw a place of burial that was uplifted via an archway.” Aron Hill

Aron Hill obtained a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Alberta College of Art and Design and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006. They have exhibited across Canada and in Dubai. Hill’s work is held in private and corporate collections.
