Aron Hill’s acrylic minimalist paintings are inspired interpretations of landscape.

For this Calgary-based artist, ‘landscape’ has been re-imagined in modern form with clean bold lines and fresh vibrant colours. Hill has long admired the iconic modernist work of Jack Bush and the masterful use of colour by French artists like Matisse. Central to much of their work-- a red and yellow sun viewed as a symbolic guiding light appears here in the corner of the canvas. Three yellow birds and three black rocks add significant detail—the rocks are seen as monumental altars. The ‘earth’ appears as a deep turquoise outlined in white and black providing dramatic contrast.

Aron Hill obtained a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Alberta College of Art and Design and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006. They have exhibited across Canada and in Dubai. Hill’s work is held in private and corporate collections.
