About Moon guardian

This contemporary landscape painting that features a moon is by Aron Hill.

They are known for their distinctive use of simple, bold form and bright colours. The work of Aron Hill often reimagines the classic landscape. Central to the Calgary artist’s visual language are key images—the moon, the sun and rocks, all of which are present here. The viewer’s eye is drawn to a black figurative shape in the center of this painting—the white moon appears at the top. The moon is a centuries-old symbol of mystery and magic. As the moon’s shape changes nightly, it is also often used to represent the idea of renewal. Several other graphic shapes balance each side of the central image—a half sun symbolically seen as a guiding light and rocks—nature’s ‘altars.’ The palette is fresh and modern—hot pink, bright red, yellow, earthy brown and black that pop against the raw white canvas.

“I’ve always approached my work from the standpoint of figurative work, oddly enough, and I’m always drawn to figurative work.” Aron Hill

Aron Hill obtained a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Alberta College of Art and Design and their MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006. They have exhibited across Canada and in Dubai. Hill’s work is held in private and corporate collections.
