About Mountain Passage

Aron Hill returns to bright colours and familiar bold imagery—the sun and rocks in this contemporary landscape. This new series is created in a collaged manner—using gluing, threading, and acrylic paint to add depth and complexity to the visual narrative.
A demi-halo of bright pink encircles a yellow sun that appears to peek out of the rich chocolate brown of the ‘mountain’. Several organic shapes in bright white and a decorative border in black anchor the base of the piece.

“Accordingly when we came to the defiles of the mountains, I placed the two kegs of alcohol on a vicious horse, and by noon the kegs were empty, and in pieces, the horse rubbing his load against the rocks to get rid of it. I wrote to my partners what I had done; and that I would do the same to every keg of alcohol, and for the next six years that I had charge of the fur trade on the west side of the mountains, no further attempt was made to introduce spirituous liquors.” Aron Hill as quoted from David Thompson’s journals

Aron Hill obtained a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Alberta College of Art and Design and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006. They have exhibited across Canada and in Dubai. Hill’s work is held in private and corporate collections.
