About the Work
Scalloped leaf shapes in purple, black, lime green, and magenta on white are each shot through with narrow lines of yellow in these paired playful shaped panels. These vibrant panels are rimmed in gold leaf that casts reflective, glowing highlights. Hill's work recalls aspects of minimalism echoing the shaped colourfield paintings of Ellsworth Kelly. The choice of solid colors, restricted medium and flattened space, is informed by Hill’s influences including modernist Jack Bush and William Perehudoff. The work echoes the shaped minimalist paintings of Ellsworth Kelly. Aron Hill currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2000 with a BFA in Interdisciplinary studies. He then completed his MFA at Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006.
