For this serigraph, Toronto born pop artist Charles Pachter collaborated with one of Canada’s most celebrated writers, Margaret Atwood. They have been friends for decades. “She became my muse and mentor.” Charles Pachter. This simple, poignant drawing of an older woman’s face is one of many Pachter created to illustrate Atwood’s most famous collections of poems called “The Journals of Susanna Moodie,” the modernized version of a pioneer tale. It took two years for Pachter to create artwork for each poem and the resulting book is considered a Canadian masterpiece. A painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer and author, Pachter is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Sorbonne-Paris. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France's Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and twice a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee medal. He has honorary Doctorate degrees from the Ontario College of Art & Design, the University of Toronto and Brock University. His paintings are in public and private collections around the world.
