One of Canada’s leading contemporary artists, Charles Pachter is a painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer, historian, author and lecturer. His paintings hang in public and private collections around the world. Those of the Queen, moose, and maple leaf flag are pop icons of Canadian art. Pachter was born in Toronto and holds several university degrees and honorary doctorates, in addition to being an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee medal. Retrospective exhibitions of his work have toured France, Germany, Japan, and India. This particular painting featuring the blessing of the Pope is one of a series where Pachter juxtaposes a famous figure (such as the Queen or Pope) with the very Canadian moose.
