About Ascend:Forest
This contemporary glass wall sculpture is inspired by nature.Cheryl Wilson Smith’s ethereal glass work reflects her deep connection to the land that surrounds her Northern Ontario home and studio. Living on the edge of the boreal forest, where she walks almost daily, Wilson Smith’s delicately detailed glass work is informed in shape and colour by the beauty of that natural world. Her aesthetic is unique—layer upon layer of fine ground glass (frit) appears to recreate organic form and texture. Ascend is one of a series that has seven vertical pieces of varying lengths in a rich rust, gray palette that together create a dynamic pattern.
“Ascend reminds me of an abstracted forest, but the trees always make me look up in wonder; they allow me to feel grounded while uplifting my soul.” Cheryl Wilson Smith
