About Dearg Mur 3

This contemporary glass sculpture inspired by nature is designed as a tabletop piece.

Cheryl Wilson Smith is an award-winning glass artist who has created a series of stunning sculptures from recycled glass. Their form and textures are inspired by the rugged beauty of her remote Northern Ontario home. This piece, in a bright red, resembles a wall built layer by layer in a narrow rectangular shape. ‘Dearg Mur’ means ‘red wall’ in Gaelic. The sculpture sits on a dark gray base. One of the ‘Boundaries’ series is designed to be ‘an exploration of boundaries…both political and personal.’
.
“My sculptures, the gossamer fine yet intrinsically strong structures, become an active receptacle for interpretations of time and lasting memory. A place for quiet contemplation.” Cheryl Wilson Smith

Cheryl Wilson Smith was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council.
