About Don't Let Them Burst Your Bubble: Lapis Small

This contemporary lapis-colored glass wall sculpture was created by a Canadian artist.

Cheryl Wilson Smith is known for her uniquely beautiful glass work—its form, color and texture is often inspired by the rugged natural beauty of her home and studio in northern Ontario. This current series explores a different narrative that symbolizes life’s joys and challenges. The elegant composition features 14 lapis-colored glass bubbles; some inflated, others slightly deflated and pierced by iron nails. Light naturally shines through the glass forming shadows as the bubbles, arranged in a cascading pattern appear to float on the wall. The title refers to a popular colloquial expression.

“This work is a reminder to each of us who are confronted by the opinions and criticisms of others to consider those perspectives but to always stay true to our beliefs and follow our dreams. These dreams are important and valuable.”
