About Mossy Outcrop 2

This contemporary wall sculpture created by Cheryl Wilson Smith features mirrored bubbles.

Cheryl Wilson Smith is known for her uniquely beautiful glasswork—its form, color and texture is often inspired by the rugged natural beauty of her home and studio in northern Ontario. This current series explores a different narrative that symbolizes life’s joys and challenges. The elegant vertical composition features fourteen mirrored blown glass bubbles; some inflated, others deflated and pierced by iron nails arranged in a cascading pattern. Light naturally reflects off the glass forming shadows and mirroring the surroundings as the bubbles appear to float on the wall. The title refers to a popular colloquial expression.

“This work is a reminder to each of us who are confronted by the opinions and criticisms of others to consider those perspectives but to always stay true to our beliefs and follow our dreams. These dreams are important and valuable.”
