About Outcrop No.16

This contemporary glass wall sculpture by Cheryl Wilson Smith has an earthy colour palette.

Cheryl Wilson Smith’s delicate glass sculptures are inspired by ancient rock and the boreal forests that surround her home and studio in a remote part of Northern Ontario. Outcrop No. 16 is one of a series of beautifully detailed wall sculptures that resemble natural rocky outcrops in earthy shades of black, brown and gray. Wilson Smith uses fine layers of glass frit (ground glass) to create these unique, highly textured pieces.

“The layers of my work represent many things, but one of them is the accumulation of memories that are passed down.” Cheryl Wilson Smith

Cheryl Wilson Smith was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council for the Arts. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre and the Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor wall. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, in the UK and the US.
