About Picking Up the Pieces Turquoise

This contemporary turquoise glass sculpture is designed as a tabletop piece.

The award-winning glass artist Cheryl Wilson Smith creates uniquely beautiful sculptural work from hand-blown glass in her Northern Ontario studio. This new series uses pieces of recycled glass carefully chosen for their form, polished and layered in a dynamic stacked shape. Mounted on a clear glass block, light illuminates each different turquoise coloured piece—some plain, some patterned that shine like jewels and makes the entire sculpture glow.

“Picking Up the Pieces celebrates the beauty in imperfection and the potential for renewal, as each piece of glass finds its place in a new narrative—one of transformation, reimagining, and the quiet power of renewal.” Cheryl Wilson Smith

Cheryl Wilson Smith was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre, Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor wall. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, in the UK and the US.
