About Transition

This contemporary glass sculpture inspired by nature is designed as a tabletop piece.

The masterly use of fused layers of glass frit in Cheryl Wilson Smith's work has afforded the Canadian artist international attention. In her studio set adjacent to the boreal forests of Northern Ontario, Wilson Smith creates unique artwork that draws inspiration from the rugged landscape of her home. This highly textured piece is made from fine layers of glass frit (ground glass) in a rich earthy colour that is layered in a shape reminiscent of a tree trunk. The sculpture sits on a stand and can be turned to view its impressive detail. One of a series.

“I am fortunate to spend a bit of most days in the forest…I want to share the peace and wonder I find there.” Cheryl Wilson Smith

Cheryl Wilson Smith was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council.
