In this acrylic and charcoal piece by Ciba Karisik, the Canadian artist evokes an almost tangible sense of the stillness of a river as it flows into the distance.
The reflective mirror-like surface of the water is framed by lush greenery—a forest edges the landscape. Expressive brushstrokes in a rich palette of dark greens, gray-blue, white and black bring the work to life. Karisik’s work is often inspired by the time he spends in nature.

Ciba Karisik completed a bachelor’s degree in 1985 and a master’s in painting at the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Art. In 1992, Karisik immigrated to Canada where he continued his career. Since then, he has produced a significant body of work and exhibited regularly in solo and group exhibitions. His paintings are held in international corporate and private collections in Canada, the US, England and Europe.
