About Sentinels

This oil landscape painting of birch trees is by Ciba Karisik.

The majestic trunks of two mature birch trees stand as sentinels and draw the viewer’s eye in this realistic portrayal of a forest glade. Ciba Karisik is known internationally for his visually captivating landscapes. Using expressive brushstrokes he is able to recreate the actual texture of the white birch bark and its black knotty detail.
A line of sunlit fresh young trees offer a lush backdrop. The contemporary bright green, yellow, white and black colour palette suggests summer.

“In Canada, we are lucky to witness dramatic seasonal changes that show themselves in an ever-evolving carousel of forms and colours. In a forest, these transitions are most pronounced and it’s a joy to immortalize these metamorphoses in paint.” Ciba Karisik

Ciba Karisik completed a bachelor’s degree in 1985 and a master’s in painting at the Sarajevo Academy of Fine Art. In 1992, Karisik immigrated to Canada where he continued his career. Since then, he has produced a significant body of work and exhibited regularly in solo and group exhibitions. His paintings are held in international corporate and private collections in Canada, the US, England and Europe. Notable collectors include Brian Mulroney, Alex Trebek, Martin Short, Martha Stewart and U2’s Bono.
