About Divergence II

Claude Millette often draws inspiration for his modern sculptures from the graceful movement of dancers. This series of gently curved steel beams appears to interpret the natural fluid form of a dancer in motion. Each beam is set at a different angle —each one appears to lean on the other. The sculpture is forged from corten steel and mounted on a rectangular ‘stage-like’ base. The appealing rust-coloured patina of this material will continue to weather as it ages. The name of the sculpture suggests the act of ‘divergent thinking’ that compels the artist to pursue creativity, embrace imagination and defy convention.

“Like what happens in dance, energy comes from tensions or polarities. This extraordinary art fascinates me by the communion of looks and the sensuality of bodies in movement and by this reinvented space of beauty and gestures where emotion without words is expressed through intensity and desire.”
