About Embrasement V

This contemporary metal floor sculpture is geometric in form.

Claude Millette is internationally recognized for his distinctive, contemporary sculptures. The Quebec artist’s provocative vision is inspired by the idea of playing with perception. His favoured form often emulates the graceful motion naturally associated with the movement of the human body. This abstract indoor sculpture, hand forged from steel features a curved column of small cubes—each one precariously perched on the other. The natural dark orange patina of mild steel is an appropriate finish given that the French term ‘embrasement’ refers to fire, flames, or burning. One of a series.

“By deploying a minimum of material in space for maximum effect, by giving it sometimes exuberant movements, at the limits of balance, I call into question the notions of gravity and stability.” Claude Millette
