About Projection II
As an acclaimed Quebec sculptor, Claude Millette is well known for his public artwork. Projection II is a fine example of Millette’s mastery in forging steel, his preferred material to create expressive, architectural sculptures. The three elegantly curved stainless steel beams in this piece appear to reach skyward. Millette has often used a dancer’s sensual choreography as a model for his own sculptural form. He is fascinated with the concepts of balance and imbalance and his intent is to challenge the viewer’s perception.
“By deploying a minimum of material in space for maximum effect, by giving it sometimes exuberant movements, at the limits of balance, I call into question the notions of gravity and stability.” Claude Millette
