About Dawning

This contemporary acrylic abstract painting was inspired by nature.

Claudia Jean McCabe returns to a favourite theme in this pretty pastel coloured painting of a meadow. Nature’s ephemeral beauty often informs her work. Dawning evokes the emergence of early morning light through its restrained, abstract composition. Graffiti-like markings depict fields of grasses rendered in delicate strokes that suggest movement and create depth. The colour palette is fresh and modern—soft blues for the sky and a rich mixture of greens for the grassy field.

“Dawning invites viewers to pause for a while in contemplation of the beauty and
quiet simplicity of nature’s presence. Fields touched by breezes only early morning’s mists reveal. ” claudia jean mccabe

Claudia Jean McCabe was born in Montreal in 1947. In a moment of inspiration, she decided to return to school in 1989 and obtained an Honours diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown College in Toronto. She discovered both a passion and a talent for painting, and in that same year, she was also elected to the Society of Canadian Artists. She has been a member of the Prince Edward County Arts Council since 2010.
McCabe has conducted workshops and taught art classes in various institutions, including the Fred Varley Art Gallery, St. Lawrence College, and Loyalist College. She has been the recipient of many awards, including, most recently, Arts in the County’s Oeno Gallery Award of Excellence. Her work has been exhibited at numerous galleries in Ontario, including Cibo’s Gallery in Toronto, the Harbour Gallery in Oakville, and the Sandra Whitton Gallery in Kingston. Claudia McCabe’s work can be found in both private and corporate domestic and international collections in the US, Britain, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand and Switzerland.
