About Every Cloud has One
This contemporary acrylic painting of a storm cloud is in black and white. The dynamic imagery of Every Cloud has One captures the intriguing drama of a storm and its attendant theatrical sounds. A dense, textured black cloud dominates the canvas, its edges softened by subtle greys, flashes of red and hints of turquoise blue. Thin vertical drips cascade from the cloud, suggesting rain. During a decades-long career, Claudia McCabe has often found inspiration for her work in the colours, patterns and shapes found in nature. The name is from the popular expression meaning that even during the darkest times, there is reason to hope.
“Scattered turquoise markings (are intended to) introduce a sense of hope and renewal. The composition of the painting evokes the duality of darkness and light, reminding viewers that every cloud carries a silver lining.” Claudia McCabe
Claudia Jean McCabe was born in Montreal in 1946. In a moment of inspiration, she decided to return to school in 1989 and obtained an Honours diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown College in Toronto.
She discovered both a passion and a talent for painting, and in that same year, she was also elected to the Society of Canadian Artists. She has been a member of the Prince Edward County Arts Council since 2010.
McCabe has conducted workshops and taught art classes in various institutions, including the Fred Varley Art Gallery, St. Lawrence College, and Loyalist College. She has been the recipient of many awards, including, most recently, Arts in the County’s Oeno Gallery Award of Excellence. Her work has been exhibited at numerous galleries in Ontario, including Cibo’s Gallery in Toronto, the Harbour Gallery in Oakville, and the Sandra Whitton Gallery in Kingston. Claudia McCabe’s paintings can be found in both private and corporate domestic and international collections in the US, Britain, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand and Switzerland.
