About Sparked

This contemporary acrylic abstract painting is rendered in black, white and gray.

Claudia Jean McCabe favours using raw canvas for its textures, its organic qualities and neutral colour field. In this minimalist tonal piece, McCabe has painted the expanse of the canvas in a snowy white. This backdrop allows the many layers of delicate grays to emerge as shadows. Bold black forms aligned in rhythmic sequences punctuate the space while a single burst of red introduces a jolt of intensity - like the ignition of a spark.

“This painting conveys a sense of sudden energy emerging from a field of stillness and calm. This interplay of restraint and disruption in "Sparked” invites viewers to reflect on the moment when stillness transforms into motion and possibility.” claudia jean mccabe

Claudia Jean McCabe was born in Montreal in 1947. In a moment of inspiration, she decided to return to school in 1989 and obtained an Honours diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown College in Toronto. She discovered both a passion and a talent for painting, and in that same year, she was also elected to the Society of Canadian Artists.
She has been a member of the Prince Edward County Arts Council since 2010. McCabe has conducted workshops and taught art classes in various institutions, including the Fred Varley Art Gallery, St. Lawrence College, and Loyalist College.
She has been the recipient of many awards, including, most recently, Arts in the County’s Oeno Gallery Award of Excellence. Her work has been exhibited at numerous galleries in Ontario, including Cibo’s Gallery in Toronto, the Harbour Gallery in Oakville, and the Sandra Whitton Gallery in Kingston. Claudia McCabe’s work can be found in both private and corporate domestic and international collections in the US, Britain, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand and Switzerland.
