About The Hundred Acre Wood

This contemporary acrylic abstract painting was inspired by nature.

Expressive brushstrokes and veils of colour dance across this canvas, painted by Claudia McCabe. This painting explores contrast and texture through soft washes of gray accented by deep crimson and black mark-making. Drips and gestural lines create movement across the surface, suggesting a landscape in flux or an emotional undercurrent. A substrate of raw canvas enhances its organic, unfiltered quality, allowing each stroke to feel immediate and alive.

“The Hundred Acre Wood was painted with a fascination for raw canvas and its elusive reception to acrylic painting applications. Minimal, yet layered, the work resonates with quiet intensity and openness.” Claudia McCabe

Claudia Jean McCabe was born in Montreal in 1946. In a moment of inspiration, she decided to return to school in 1989 and obtained an Honours diploma in Graphic Design from George Brown College in Toronto.
She discovered both a passion and a talent for painting, and in that same year, she was also elected to the Society of Canadian Artists. She has been a member of the Prince Edward County Arts Council since 2010. McCabe has conducted workshops and taught art classes in various institutions, including the Fred Varley Art Gallery, St. Lawrence College, and Loyalist College. She has been the recipient of many awards, including, most recently, Arts in the County’s Oeno Gallery Award of Excellence. Her work has been exhibited at numerous galleries in Ontario, including Cibo’s Gallery in Toronto, the Harbour Gallery in Oakville, and the Sandra Whitton Gallery in Kingston. Claudia McCabe’s paintings can be found in both private and corporate domestic and international collections in the US, Britain, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand and Switzerland.
