About Breath

This contemporary figurative wall sculpture is a mask forged from metal lit with LED light.

For decades, Dale Dunning has distinguished himself as a superb sculptor whose singular vision evolves around the concept of the human head. For Dunning, the head—the face itself, is a beautiful symbol of human experience. His eclectic work—hand forged metal masks such as Breath reveal a genderless face, eyes closed. Breath is created from powder-coated aluminum; its highly polished surface perforated with tiny circles that allow light to shine through. LED lighting (that can change from red to blue) is provided by a light box behind the mask that mounts easily on the wall. It can be plugged into any outlet or hard-wired.
The use of LED lighting brings additional warmth to the sculpture as it appears to glow from within.

“The thing I like about the head is it is recognizable, and it encompasses everything that we have experienced. We live in our heads…I use the head as a container to suggest what’s percolating underneath.” Dale Dunning

“Dale Dunning is an exceptionally versatile artist. He has mastered techniques in bronze, aluminum, steel and glass over four decades of relentless creativity.”
