About Blue Over Yellow #2

David Sorensen’s brightly coloured abstract work is visually arresting, fresh and modern. The venerated Canadian artist was initially inspired by the vivid palette of Mexico where he mounted his first major exhibit. Sorensen admired and was influenced by the work of American abstract expressionists Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline. This striking vertical piece—two solid fields of colour—deep blue on top and canary yellow below are divided by a narrow band of white and framed by gray and yellow above.

“I’m tapping into something new to me, and that enables a multi-view of the inner voice.” David Sorensen

Born in Vancouver Sorensen (1937-2011) studied at UBC and the Vancouver School of Art. His teachers were renowned—Arthur Erikson, Bill Reid and Jack Shadbolt.
