About Blue Diamond

Quebec artist Éric Tardif’s colourful and engaging abstract sculptures invite the viewer to think about their own relationship to the environment. Sculpting allows Tardif to explore ideas of movement and space. He is interested in provoking a reaction from the viewer. The Blue Diamond is an imposing monumental sculpture forged from aluminum and coated in a deep blue colour. Its diamond shape was inspired by the rare blue gem. The ocean-like and sky-blue hues of this natural stone have traditionally symbolized eternity, wisdom and serenity. Tardif designed the sculpture’s balanced geometry to suggest stability and harmony. When the sculpture is illuminated at night, it becomes a luminous landmark in the landscape.

Éric Tardif studied art and photography in high school, acquired a diploma in sculpture studies at the Quebec School of Sculpture, and continued his art studies at the University of Quebec. In 2016, he took an extensive course in cutting and welding. The recipient of numerous awards, Tardif has shown his sculptures in both solo and group exhibits.

His work can be found in several public collections including the Royal Canadian Mint, and the Permanent Art Collection of the City of Ottawa and in many private collections notably that of the American actor, Bill Murray.
