About Fluorescent Françoise

In this joyful abstract painting, Fiona Ackerman is playing with expressive form and vivid colour. The Vancouver-based artist is highly regarded for her masterful sense of dynamic form and her inspired palette. This painting—its fluid markings and gestural brushstrokes -- is rendered in a punchy neon-bright palette of hot pink, orange, melon and yellow against a soft gray and white background. ‘Twist and shout!’

“I named it 'Fluorescent Françoise after Françoise Hardy, the 1960s French pop star whose music inspires warmth, colour and playfulness.” Fiona Ackerman

Born in Ottawa in 1978, Fiona Ackerman studied painting at Concordia University and completed a BFA at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2002. In her free time, she writes and records music and videos, often working with other musicians. She currently lives and works in Vancouver BC.
