About It's Going to be the Sunny side from now on

This contemporary abstract painting is by Fiona Ackerman.

Vancouver based artist Fiona Ackerman’s singularly unique visual language has attracted an international audience. Her oeuvre is eclectic, dynamic, and imaginative. As in this piece, she utilizes expressive brushstrokes, markings and colour to great effect. Here the canvas appears to be divided into several spaces—each one distinctly different rendered in a bold palette of black, white, earthy brown and red.
This is one of a series of paintings Ackerman called ‘Paper Trail’ named for the notes left by strangers on telephone poles in her neighbourhood viewed while walking between her home and studio. A single bright yellow ‘Post-it’ note with a smiley face on it pops from the canvas.

“It is not possible to separate engagement with the material world from personal interior space. My paper trail of paintings leads to one conclusion: all of art is an abstraction, exploring the very real experience of fleeting life. There is, finally, no division between worlds.” Fiona Ackerman

“…Ackerman quietly and proficiently delivers on her pledge of continued reinvention, each series more unexpected than the last. Much of her work feels collaged, though she works primarily with paint—colours are layered, and textures swirl and overlap.” Elia Essen, Nuvo Magazine
