About Classic Pine Cone 25-627
This contemporary outdoor sculpture of a pine cone is made from metal by Floyd Elzinga. The Canadian artist’s uniquely beautiful metalwork is inspired by nature. The pine cone has become one of Elzinga’s signature pieces, valued for its exquisite, realistic detail. This large pine cone is hand forged from stainless steel that has been fired until it attains a golden colour. Its highly polished surface naturally reflects light. Elzinga loves the rugged durability of pine cones as seeds that represent regeneration and whose natural design is ideal for self-reproduction.
"Seeds embody a stereotypical potential, and that idea of the potential of a seed is magnified by 10 to 200 times in a pinecone." Floyd Elzinga
“Floyd does in three dimensions what the Group of Seven did in two; his style is particularly his own”. – J. Long, art critic
Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. Elzinga has been an artist in residence in both India and Vietnam. At the foot of Everest, he had the unique experience of creating art from collected waste, and in Hanoi, he attended a symposium that attracted sculptors from all over the world to contribute to South East Asia’s largest sculpture park. Floyd Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. He lives and works in Niagara, Ontario.
