About Pine Cone 23556

Hand-forged from weathering steel, Floyd Elzinga’s series of tabletop pine cones mimic the organic shape of the natural object. The rust-coloured patina will only enhance over time. Pine cones have become one of Elzinga’s signature forms as objects that symbolize both potential and renewal. The Canadian artist has always been inspired by nature, a result of his close connection to the land. Elzinga grew up on a farm. His choice of an industrial material is intriguing given the natural subject matter.

“I am continually surprised and inspired by a new property that the material reveals and a whole new style or body of work results.” Floyd Elzinga

Elzinga’s pine cone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and the US. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
