About Pine Cone 23-620

The deep turquoise colour of this small tabletop sculpture by Floyd Elzinga enhances its iconic form. The Canadian artist has become known for creating these signature contemporary pieces inspired by shapes and colours found in nature. This pine cone is hand-forged from solid bronze. Elzinga prefers to work in metal due to its inherent beauty, durability and malleability.

“I am continually surprised and inspired by a new property that the material reveals and a whole new style or body of work results.” Floyd Elzinga

Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. Elzinga has been an artist in residence in both India and Vietnam. At the foot of Everest, he had the unique experience of creating art from collected waste and in Hanoi, he attended a symposium that attracted sculptors from all over the world to build and install pieces in South East Asia’s largest sculpture park. Floyd Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. He lives and works in Niagara, Ontario.
