This contemporary tabletop metal sculpture of a pine cone is by celebrated artist Floyd Elzinga.

Sculptor Floyd Elzinga’s pine cones have become one of his signature pieces valued for their exquisite detail and iconic form. This large tabletop sculpture is hand forged from weathering steel—its pop-art form and rust-coloured patina emulates natural colour and shape. Elzinga views pine cones—one of nature’s most aggressive seeds as symbols of both potential and renewal.

Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. Elzinga has been an artist in residence in both India and Vietnam. At the foot of Everest, he had the unique experience of creating art from collected waste, and in Hanoi, he attended a symposium that attracted sculptors from all over the world to contribute to South East Asia’s largest sculpture park. Floyd Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. He lives and works in Niagara, Ontario.
