About Pine Cone 25-040

This contemporary table top steel sculpture of a pine cone is by Floyd Elzinga.

Hand forged from corten steel, this large table top pine cone appears to have the patina of the real thing. Over time, the attractive rust-coloured finish will continue to weather. Elzinga’s pine cones have become highly valued for their exquisite detail and fine craftsmanship. The Canadian artist has many reasons for favouring this quintessentially Canadian image.

"What I love about seeds is their rugged durability and adept design involved in promoting self-reproduction." Floyd Elzinga

“Floyd does in three dimensions what the Group of Seven did in two, his style is particularly his own”. – J. Long, art critic

Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. Elzinga has been an artist in residence in both India and Vietnam. At the foot of Everest he had the unique experience of creating art from collected waste and in Hanoi he attended a symposium that attracted sculptors from all over the world to contribute to South East Asia’s largest sculpture park. Floyd Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US. He lives and works in Niagara, Ontario.
