About Pinecone 24-507

This contemporary outdoor sculpture was forged from steel; its form is inspired by nature.

The large pine cone sculptures by Floyd Elzinga have become beloved and collected classics that now grace many public venues including a recent installation at Trent University in Ontario. The Canadian artist has acquired a reputation as a superb craftsman—each pine cone is hand forged; its dynamic form and exquisite detail mirror the natural shape. This sculpture is made from corten steel that ages beautifully and will acquire a rich rust-colored patina over time. Can be displayed indoors or out.

"What I love about seeds is their rugged durability and adept design involved in promoting self-reproduction. Seeds embody a stereotypical potential and that idea of the potential of a seed is magnified by 10 to 200 times in a pinecone." Floyd Elzinga

“Much like a painter with a brush, Elzinga uses metal-working machinery to create textures and strokes, with a color palette determined through means of polishing, burnishing, sanding, grinding, rusting, or heating.”
Paul McAtomney, Landscape Architects Network
