About Star Seed
This contemporary outdoor monumental metal sculpture by Floyd Elzinga resembles a dandelion seed.Inspired by the naturally beautiful design and remarkable resilience of a dandelion seed, Canadian artist Floyd Elzinga has created an extraordinary sculpture. Known for his superb craftsmanship, this huge piece emulates the dynamic and delicate form of a dandelion seed. The delicate strands of the dandelion's parachute-like head, called a pappus, are hand-forged in stainless steel and attached along a lengthy stem to its pod-shaped base. No doubt Elzinga, whose distinctive artwork celebrates nature, was particularly awestruck by the unique shape of a dandelion seed, which allows it to travel on the wind as far as 800 kilometres.
"What I love about seeds is their rugged durability and adept design involved in promoting self-reproduction.” Floyd Elzinga
“Floyd does in three dimensions what the Group of Seven did in two; his style is particularly his own”. – J. Long, art critic
