About Wall-mounted Pine Cone 25-220

This rare contemporary wall mounted metal sculpture of a pine cone is by Floyd Elzinga.

Canadian artist Floyd Elzinga’s exquisitely detailed pine cones have become prized collector’s items. This wall sculpture, hand forged in coated steel emulates the form and patina of a real pine cone. Most of Elzinga’s pine cones are created as either indoor table top/floor pieces or large outdoor works so this wall mounted piece is rather unique. Elzinga’s artwork is inspired by the rugged beauty of the Niagara escarpment where he both lives and has his studio.

"Seeds embody a stereotypical potential and that idea of the potential of a seed is magnified by 10 to 200 times in a pinecone." Floyd Elzinga

“Floyd does in three dimensions what the Group of Seven did in two, his style is particularly his own”. – J. Long, art critic

Floyd Elzinga received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS. Elzinga has been an artist in residence in both India and Vietnam. At the foot of Everest he had the unique experience of creating art from collected waste and in Hanoi he attended a symposium that attracted sculptors from all over the world to contribute to South East Asia’s largest sculpture park. Floyd Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across Ontario and in the US.
