About Unzip The Earth GEO 1/9

"Zipper GEO" is a playful, outdoor sculptural installation consisting of a steel zipper handle and concrete brick teeth that give the illusion of unzipping the hillside. The exaggerated size of this everyday object that the artist has transformed into fine art is Pop art inspired. This sculpture is number 1 in an edition of 9.

“Floyd does in three dimensions what the Group of Seven did in two, his style is particularly his own”. – J. Long, art critic

Floyd Elzinga’s work explores traditional landscapes through non-traditional techniques. Strongly influenced by the natural and cultivated environment surrounding his studio on the Niagara Escarpment, each creation is a direct reference to his distinctly Canadian perspective. Elzinga’s pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art, and his work is held in collections across southern Ontario. Floyd received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design in Halifax, NS.
