About White No 9
Lush layers of white paint in expressive brushstrokes form a geometric pattern that plays out across the canvas in this engaging abstract by Ivo Stoyanov. Internationally recognized for his dynamic compositions, the Canadian artist’s inspiration is drawn from the colours, shapes and textures found in nature. White signifies purity, and a sense of ‘renewal’ and stands out against the spontaneous black and taupe markings that create an intriguing, rich layered background. Stoyanov uses a combination of acrylic paint mediums, marble dust and cold wax that almost appear to vibrate with visible energy.“In recent years I’ve worked with what I would define as “nature as a process “- a painting that neither idealizes nor plays with nature as a mere fragment, but it’s conceived as a process.” Ivo Stoyanov
“Ivo Stoyanov coaxes our eyes and heads into that transcendental place, a simultaneously light and dark place, where he firmly believes that art, and especially art about the natural world, shakes hands with spirit.” Donald Bracket, Art Critic
