About Shimmer 1/12
This abstract figurative indoor sculpture is made of bronze by Jeremy Guy.The elegant sculptural work of Jeremy Guy has garnered him an impressive international following. He is known for his timeless designs, often inspired by a love of the simplicity of mid-century design. Shimmer is one of the sculptures in his figurative series. Hand forged from bronze, the lyrical lines of this piece emulate the form of a reclining human figure. This sculpture, in particular, was inspired by a classic black and white photograph of his mother taken in 1953 when she was only sixteen. She is posing on a rock in the ocean, and a big smile lights up her pretty face. The title of the sculpture came to Guy while he was working on it. He says, “ It began to take on the appearance of a distorted reflection, perhaps from the surface of rippled water or as seen through a heat haze.” The refined, highly polished finish of the sculpture reflects light and does, indeed, ‘shimmer.’
(This was taken.) “Back in the days when we had actual hard copies of pics and the family albums came out on special occasions, so the image stuck in my memory from an early age. I'm sure sitting on the rock was uncomfortable, but she still tried to strike an elegant pose!” Jeremy Guy
