About Amber Clock

This glass indoor sculpture is designed to represent the concept of time.

John Paul Robinson’s sculptural glasswork is highly regarded for its masterful execution. The Canadian artist is often Inspired by the dynamic relationship of humans with the natural world and our understanding of science.
The Amber Clock is designed to represent the concept of time. It resembles a spinning top; its shape is also reminiscent of a planet. Inside the hand-blown glass globe are a number of metal gears that look like the inner workings of a clock. The globe itself is crackled glass–fissures and cracks appear on the surface adding attractive detail. The globe is enclosed in an ornate copper ‘cage’ that sits in a cone.

“Amber clock was made in response to the turn of the new millennium in the year 2000. It is about deep time. (It explores) the idea that time is a consequence of orbits of planets around the sun and the moon around the earth.”
