Toronto artist Julie Himel has captured the glorious light of a sunset in this new dramatic acrylic piece. The sky appears in hues of yellow highlighted by white and a touch of pink. In the foreground the landscape appears in purple, black and yellow offering rich contrast. A devoted environmentalist, she is known for her inventive use of colour to create memorable abstracted landscapes. The title of this work suggests how the absence of human sound in nature allows for the echoing of voices.
“(This painting is) about meditation and getting still and quiet in order to hear and connect more (with nature.)” Julie Himel
She completed a BFA at York University with additional studies at the Toronto School of Art and Langara College in Vancouver. Himel has been painting professionally for more than 20 years. Her award-winning paintings can be found in private, corporate and public collections.
