About Mimesis No 09

Vigorous striations combed through crimson and orange pigmented plaster, thick and lightly cracking in areas, create a dynamic and balanced composition. Imprinted and burnished, the surface brings to mind an aged palimpsest fresco wall.

Naim's artwork explores the create psychological state, a meditative place through which inspiration emerges and guides her mark-making.

Although her voice and her techniques are uniquely her own, her work has an affinity with the work of Marcia Myers, the American painter (1949-2008). Their preoccupation with technique and material as a contemporary way of embodying meaning consistently results in the creation of works of specific contemplation, yet referencing history in an achingly beautiful way.

"...I find myself marking the plaster, ever so indirectly, with ancient like symbols, perhaps to substantiate a sense of authenticity and balance to the images within the work . I believe that their presence offers a sense of nobility, a stability..."

Born in 1942 and raised in Germany, Naim has lived most of her life in Canada and Israel working as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. Naim has exhibited in Israel since 1995 and in Canada since 2014.

Her work is held in private collections in Israel and Canada.
