About Crépuscule de Janvier

This contemporary mosaic composition by Laurence Petit is made from colourful glass and ceramic pieces.

As a little girl, Laurence Petit was fascinated by the colourful scraps of fabric saved from her mother’s sewing. The Quebec artist’s finely detailed mosaics often reference her memory of textures and patterns. Petit’s artwork has appeared in notable public spaces in several European countries and in her own home province. An intuitive artist, she is also inspired by the colour, texture and movement found in the natural world. This compelling, intricate composition of finely cut glass and ceramic pieces is rendered in a fresh, modern palette of blues, yellow, melon, pink and white. The French word crépuscule means twilight or dusk.

“I am a big dreamer. Many of my projects started with a dream. I am one of those who believes that naming our desires, manifesting our dreams, talking about them and taking action helps the universe put things in place!” Laurence Petit

Laurence Petit has had her own studio in Montreal called l’Atelier Gogofrisette since 2007. Self-taught, she developed and perfected her technique with notable mosaic art studios in Spain, the U.S. and in Quebec. Her sculptures can be found in many public areas and she has directed several collective projects for special events within communities and schools in Quebec.
